Dataset description

The list of materials contains the bibliographic metadata in the PICK database. The latest data is from 7 November 2012. Both parent records (e.g. CD) and sub-objects (e.g. CD songs) are included. The list contains normal records and excludes so-called advance records, long-distance loan records and incomplete records. — Format: MARCXML (based on MARC21 format) — Number of records: approx. 2 300 000 — File size compressed (gzip): 225Mt — File size disassembled: approx. 4.47Gt — Character encoding: UTF-8 Works with at least one volume in a library are included. The list of materials is divided into several parts. ### Briefly on record structure: — in the controlfield and datafield fields, the tag attribute indicates which MARC 21 field is involved, e.g. tag “245” contains title and responsibility markings. — The Piki database has been built since the 1980s. Due to numerous conversions and changes in cataloguing, it contains various “historical” layers and even errors. Among other things, the conversions have connected the databases of different municipalities to the pitch database and exchanged listing formats from FinMARC to MARC 21. However, errors are not critical or prevent analysis from the database. Further guidance: [Piki blog](http://palvelut2.tampere.fi/blogit/pikiextra/?page_id=1587).
