The City of Helsinki’s master plan is a general plan, which also includes the city’s sub-general plans and the sub-general plan directory map. In the master plan, areas are reserved for housing, jobs, transport, nature conservation and recreation. The master plan is presented on the map and includes schematic markings and regulations as well as a schematic statement. The task of urban planning is the general management of the urban structure and land use of the city or part of it, the location and coordination of operations. City planning is also used to guide town planning. The master plan shows the municipality’s long-term land use solutions and allocates regional reserves for future residential areas, services, business, transport and land use restrictions, such as areas of recreation, conservation and cultural historical significance. The general plan is approved by the City Council. In addition to the General Plan 2002 covering the entire city, Helsinki’s underground master plan and sub-general plans are valid in Helsinki: Archipelago and sea sub-area master plan (10350); East Jollas sub-general plan (10541); Jätkäsaari sub-general plan (11350); Central Pasila sub-general plan (11356); King’s oak sub-general plan (11640); Partial master plan for Sörnäistenranta and Hermanninranta (11650); Kruunuvuorinranta sub-general plan (11756) and East Haga sub-general plan (12199).
