Digiroad

Digiroad is a national dataset under the responsibility of the Finnish Transport Agency, which contains the centreline geometry of the road network as well as traffic-related characteristics. Digiroad is a compiling information system that collects data from the Finnish Transport Agency’s Road Register, the Land Survey of Finland’s terrain database, municipal street information systems and the information systems of a few other authorities (e.g. Helsinki Region Traffic HSL). Digiroad’s centreline geometry of the road network is obtained from the National Land Survey of Finland’s terrain database. It covers all Finnish roads, streets and private roads, as well as light traffic routes and roads in the terrain database. In addition, some data on the road network are described as complementary data to the road line geometry provided by municipalities and the Finnish Transport Agency, which is not maintained by the National Land Survey of Finland. These links can be distinguished from other geometry with the help of administrator data. The characteristics of Digiroad’s mobility planning include the functional category of the road, information on the direction of traffic flow, road name and address data, road and street network usage restrictions (i.e. closed connection, turn limit, weight, height, length and width limit) and other road network characteristics (e.g. speed limit, width, pavement data, level crossings). Digiroad data can be downloaded from the Finnish Transport Agency’s download and viewing service as a single package. An exception to this is the public transport stop data type, which can also be downloaded from Digiroad’s website.
