The purpose of the study is to determine what digital archaeological materials mean, who processes and produces the data, in what form and how they are stored. The aim has been to compile data that will be essential for the long-term preservation of digital data in the future. The background of the study is a survey commissioned by the National Board of Antiquities in spring 2019 on digital data for various actors in the field. 11 people responded to the survey and the questionnaire has been supplemented by a few additional interviews in December 2019.
