Dataset description

Finland extends north-south direction through the boreal coniferous zone. It is divided into four sub-zones whose boundaries are determined by differences in vegetation due to thermal climate. Sub-zones are further divided into parcels determined mainly by differences in vegetation due to the sea and continental climate. The material is based on the Finnish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry’s Memorandum No 3/1994 on the description of Finland’s forest biodiversity in digitised material, which has been modified to meet the needs of endangered assessments as a screen digitisation using different background materials. The material is part of SYKE’s open data (CC BY 4.0). The data product INSPIRE has been published. Purpose: The material is used for the production of background maps and rough analyses. Finland extends through the boreal coniferous forest zone. It is divided into sub-zones and blocks determined by vegetation differences due to the maritime and continental climate. The dataset is based on the Ministry of the Environment’s Memorandum No. 3/1994. It has been modified for the needs of assessment of threatened habitat types in Finland. The material is used for background maps and overall analyses. This SYKE’s dataset can be used according to open data license (CC BY 4.0). Inspire compatible dataset has been published. Finland’s borders are based on the municipality size 1:100 000, 2013 of the Finnish Land Survey of Finland’s open data, which has been added in SYKE with the sealine and the largest islands in the Baltic Sea from SYKE’s own coastline material. Use within the accuracy of the material.
