Dataset description
The material contains the current built, spontaneous and potential green roofs in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area. The material has been produced in such a way that buildings with a flat (less than 12 degrees) roof of more than 10 % if the roof area is less than 100 m² or 5 % if the roof area is more than 100 m² have been identified. The next step is to identify flat roofs with vegetation over 10 % of the suitable area on the basis of the incorrect colour orthopic image of the region in 2013. The method of identifying green roofs has been deliberately adjusted to be slightly hypersensitive, so that the green roofs do not accidentally go unnoticed. Since then, the roofs automatically identified as green roofs have been visually reviewed and, if necessary, moved to the category of either spontaneous or potential green roofs. Potential green roofs are roofs with a sufficient level of surface area, but where vegetation has not been observed. The potential green roofs are characterised by IMPORTANT, which indicates the amount of water impermeable area around the building in question within a radius of 100 m. The range ranges from 0 (environmental permeability) to...1 (environmentally impermeable). The data was produced by the German Research Centre for Space Technology (DLR) in the Decumanus project. The Seudutlas map service displays as its own map level information on which buildings have a sufficiently flat roof to make it possible to install a green roof. For each building, this is shown in the column “Applicability for green roofs”, 1= yes and 0=no.
