Dataset description

Helsinki Bicycle Route Plans for 2025. The material consists of three plans: Baanaverkko 2025, City Centre’s bike network 2025 and the target network for bicycle traffic in suburban areas. ##Baana Network 2025 The Bicycle Bananas Network Plan 2025 partly meets the targets set by the City Council to increase bicycle traffic. The Baanat are the main roads for bicycle traffic throughout the city. The Baana Network consists of both new sections and upgraded existing cycle paths. The network plan serves as a basis for space reservations and more detailed planning of bananas. The Bananas network plan responds in particular to the growing demand for long-distance bicycle traffic. The Baanas are the backbone routes that connect the region’s largest residential areas to large workplace hubs and enable fast, direct and even-speed cycling in the city. The aim is to make bicycle traffic a more attractive option also for longer journeys, so that the city’s goal of increasing bicycle traffic can be met. The whole city’s bazaar network is updated with the master plan. The goal is to make cycling easier and safer, so that the city’s goals for increasing and safer bicycle traffic can be met. The main network plan shows the main routes needed for bicycle traffic in the situation of 2025. The main routes form the frame of the cycling network, complemented by other cycle routes and connections. The plan identifies one-way and bi-directional cycling arrangements and mixed traffic arrangements in which cyclists share the same space with other vehicles. In other respects, there has been no position on the quality of transport arrangements, but the plans will be specified on a case-by-case basis. The following quality objectives have been set for a target-oriented cycling network in support of internationally generalised quality criteria: safety, straightness, ease and comfort. More information: [Target network for city bike traffic 2025 and cycling planning guide](http://dev.hel.fi/paatokset/asia/hel-2012-007324/kslk-2012-17/) ##Bicycle target network in suburban areas The target network for suburban areas together with the Bike Planning Guide [www.pyöräliikenne.fi](http://pyoraliikenne.fi/) provides guidelines for the development of cycling traffic in suburban areas. In the near future, the focus of the bike transport projects will be on expanding the city centre’s target network and the bazaar network. In suburban areas, the development of bicycle traffic is primarily focused on expanding the bazaar network. In the context of planning projects in suburban areas, it is important to identify the target state in order to create opportunities for future development in line with the growth targets of cycling traffic. In suburban areas, the focus of developing cycling traffic is not on increasing the number of cycle paths or lanes, but on providing direct, smooth and safe routes. The need for cycling traffic, such as a cycle path or lane, is primarily determined by the traffic vigilance. More detailed planning will define traffic arrangements according to local conditions. However, separate cycle paths or lanes are not always needed, but good conditions for cycling can often be achieved by calming traffic. Thus, the part indicated in the target network may also refer to the route on which the cycling traffic is assigned to the roadway. The clarification of the hierarchy of the transport network and the calming of traffic in increasingly larger areas are an excellent and effective way to achieve the conditions for cycling in line with the growth target. The new target network replaces the 2015 plan for the main tracks approved by the Transport Planning Department in 2008. The Banana Network included in the plan is in line with the master plan decided on 26 October 2016 and replaces the Banana Network approved by the Urban Planning Board on 5 March 2013. The Baana Grid has also been revised for the city centre in line with the master plan.
