Ehrenström wanted to create the Grand Duchy of Helsinki with its wide streets and wide squares. Esplanade Park separated the Estonian peninsula from the suburbs of Uusimaa. The German **C. L. Engel** designed the buildings in the monumental centre around the Senate Square. In essence, Ehrenström’s town plan was realised. However, the Gulf of Kluuv was eventually filled completely instead of the canal, and the imperial palace and gardens zoned on the northern edge of the present Meritullintori were not built. Map in Swedish. #1838 **Claes Wilhelm Gyldén** (1802-1872) published city plans for all 31 cities in Finland. His maps are the first unified city mapping. In addition to city plans, the maps show the location of cities on a smaller map, districts or blocks and public buildings. The maps are in Swedish. It looks like a 1983 edition. #1878 A highly accurate map from 1878 by Claes Kjerrström** was awarded at the World Exhibition in Paris. Land division and construction. At the bottom right, the districts in different colors and the names of the blocks. The map depicts the wooden city before the wider construction of stone houses.
