Dataset description

Statistics on the borrowing and return volumes of the Helsinki, Espoo, Kauniainen and Vantaa city libraries in 2013-2014. Nide is a piece of material belonging to the library’s collections, such as a single book, magazine, video recording or audio recording. The first tab of the Excel file contains the number of borrowed and returned material staples in libraries, according to the place and method of borrowing and recovery (customer terminal, automatic, service point) on a monthly basis. The place of loan and return is indicated by city and place of business. The statistics also show renewals of volume loans made via the internet. The client terminal is only a computer for online library communication (haku.helmet.fi, catalog.helmet.fi). The offices of the Vantaa City Library do not have customer terminals, but online library services are carried out on public customer computers. The second tab shows the number of borrowed material staples according to the volume owner’s collection, i.e. the location on a monthly basis. The owner of the staple is indicated by city, office, department (adults, children, music, special departments) and collection (borrowable, hand library, warehouse, special collections). If the department or collection is “undefined”, the volume department or collection is not defined in the library’s material database. **Note** the amounts of loans and returns of Helmet libraries have not been collected since 2014.
