The Finnish Forest Research Institute (Metla) developed the so-called national forests
multi-source Inventory (MVMI) was introduced in 1990.
Terrain data, satellite images and other numerical geospatial data
producing municipality-specific forest resource estimates and map format
forest resource information. Most of the country has been produced with 9
map theme set and Lapland 8. Latest, 2017 Inventory
there are 45 themes, in addition to timber species volumes, and
wood-stained biomass. The first product was produced in the whole country.
from 1990 to 1994; the latest are from 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011,
2013, 2015 and 2017. Metla decided in November 2012 to put 2009
the map-formed themes for open distribution and 2017 results are:
fifth for free distribution and third produced by Natural Resources Institute Finland
the map crew. In the future, new themes will be produced every one or two years.
The map-formed data are in raster form, previously 20 m x 20 m in the grid and
now at 16 m x 16 m in the ETRS-TM35FIN coordinate system. The materials cover
forestry land (from the NMI-category to forest, stubble and wasteland). In this material
other land and waters are demarcated using elements of the terrain database,
which correspond mainly to the NMI’s other categories of land other than forest, stubble and waste land.
