Nomination

The National Land Survey’s naming material is available as interface services and file products. Border surface products and file products consist of place name products and map name products. Place name products contain information about 800,000 named locations and their names in different languages. The information on the place includes the type, level position and altitude of the place, and the name includes, among other things, its written costume and language (Finnish, Swedish, Northern Sami, Inari Sámi or Skolt Sámi) at the Centre for Domestic Languages. In place name products, each place and its name or names are only once. The map name products include the location names selected for the National Land Survey of Finland’s nine standard map products and their mapographic presentation. Information includes name placement information, such as coordinates in the lower left corner of the map text, text alignment and bending, and typographical information such as text font, size, and color. The name of a place, such as a river, may appear as a map name several times in the same map product.
