Dataset description

Single-person household-dwelling units (= single-person household-dwelling units) in Helsinki by sex and age from 2004 onwards. Contains data on the population permanently resident in the municipality by age group. ##Target and cropping ###Domesticity A household-dwelling unit is made up of all persons permanently living in the same dwelling. According to the central register of the population, persons permanently registered in institutions, homeless, abroad and unknown, do not form household-dwelling units in the census. Persons living in buildings classified as residential buildings and whose dwelling does not meet the definition of dwelling do not constitute household-dwelling units. In the 1980 census, these persons also formed household-dwelling units. The concept of household-dwelling unit was introduced in the 1980 census. In previous calculations, the concept of household was used. The subtenant, who had his own food, formed his own household. Since 1980, the subtenant belongs to the same household-dwelling unit as other residents of the apartment. The household was considered to consist of family members living together and other persons with a common food economy. The ### Population Population is defined as a permanent resident population in a municipality. Persons who, according to the Population Information System maintained by the Population Register Centre (VRK), are resident in the municipality at the turn of the year belong to the population regardless of their nationality, as are Finnish citizens temporarily residing abroad. A foreigner is domiciled in a municipality if his or her stay is intended to last or has lasted for at least one year. The asylum seeker will not have his or her domicile until his/her application has been accepted. Persons belonging to a foreign embassy, a commercial mission or a seconded consular office living in a municipality, as well as their family members and personal service, do not belong to the municipality’s population unless they are Finnish nationals. On the other hand, Finnish staff from Finnish embassies and commercial missions abroad, as well as those serving in the UN peacekeeping forces, are included in the population of the municipality. At the turn of 1993/94, in accordance with the Population Data Act (507/93), the population at the turn of the year replaced the previously used 1 January situation. The difference is that the population at the turn of the year has not been born and moved on the first day of the year. Prior to 1990, information on the life-written population was used. From 1996 onwards, all data on changes in the Population Information System of the Population Register Centre received from the end of January (1990 until the end of May and 1991-95 to the end of March) will be taken into account in the population information system of the first day of the year. ##Reliability of Information Information on the place of residence of persons can be obtained in the Population Information System via the notification of moving. ##Regional Limits Territorial boundaries according to the [Helsinki District Sharing System](https://hri.fi/data/fi/dataset/helsingin-piirijako). Explanations of ##markings — two points (..): information has not been received or is too uncertain to report — point (.) logically impossible to present — line (−): less than half of the unit used
