Dataset description

The building heritage material produced by the National Board of Antiquities includes the sites protected by Decree 480/85, the Church Act (1054/1993), the Law on the Orthodox Church (985/2006) and the so-called Railway Agreement (1998) and the buildings belonging to them. The sites protected by the Church Act and the Law of the Orthodox Church only include church buildings built before 1917, not possible other buildings such as battalions or burial chapels. Various information products have been created from the material. The “Designer” or Inspire materials available for download on the website of the National Board of Antiquities do not include objects that are protected by the Act on the Protection of Building Heritage (or the Old Building Protection Act), because the maintenance of the protection data in question is the responsibility of the environmental administration. However, these items are included in the wms interface made of the material (and, for example, in the Paikkatieto Window). The data does not include buildings or areas protected in formulas. The organisation responsible for churches protected by the Church Act is the Church Government. The organisation responsible for churches protected by the Orthodox Church is the Church Government. The buildings are located in dotted areas, potential protected areas in polygons. Three different data products (Inspire, designer material and researcher material) have been compiled from the datasets.
