Dataset description

The data cover the road network maintained by the Finnish Transport Agency. The road may be made a motorway or an express road if the volume of traffic and the level of service provided so require. For the purpose of the inventory, motorways are considered to extend to a connection where slow vehicles and light traffic can move to a parallel road. The motorway is always 2-way, so it ends just like the 2-way. The part by which a cross-sectional change from 2-way to 1-way occurs and/or where a central lane is missing is an express road until such time as the aforementioned connection can be reached. This is regardless of where exactly the plate indicating the motorway had to be placed. The road can also be used as a two-way road without being a motorway in terms of traffic technology. The registration of the data is always based on the planning documents or the outcome described in the transfer decision. In addition, motorways are shown separately in the terrain. This data type is used to tell if the directions of the road are physically separated from each other. In this case, there are two tracks and a separate road address is created for each of them and the corresponding geometry is created. This is the case even if the directions are only locally separated over a distance of more than 200 metres. Due to the natural handling of geometry, it is understood that the tracks connect only 10 metres after a physical barrier. The definition of the 2-runway is described by way of example in the instructions on the address system of the road register.
