Dataset description

The catchment areas calculated for train and metro stations are defined along the light traffic road network. The boundary of the two catchment areas goes at an equal distance to two different stations. The starting material was the address data of the buildings on the basis of which distances to the nearest stations have been calculated. The catchment area can be seen as an area around the centre, where activities, such as applying for services or joining a public transport network, are directed to the centre. All Helsinki Region and Siuntio train and metro stations are included, with a total of 79. The affected areas have been formed along the light traffic route, taking into account the obstacles created by the road network and the environment. The data is in the form of Esrin shape, the coordinate system is ETRS-GK25 (EPGs 3879) and is scheduled for 2015. The production of the station location data is based on the final product of the project (ELIAS) Work Package 2. Elias is a project carried out in cooperation with HSY, the Uusimaa Federation and the Ministry of the Environment, with the objectives of improving the knowledge base on the status areas, making better use of the potential of the station areas, and developing their functionality and attractiveness as part of a new type of urban development and a low-carbon society. The work package 2 of the Elias project was implemented during 2015. The material can be found at: hsy.fi/avoindata & http://kartta.hsy.fi/ For more information, please contact [email protected]
