The surface geology map of Finland was made for the OneGeology-Europe project by digitising the Finnish soil map 1:1 000 000 from 1993 and by attaching data from the Fennoscandian Shield 1:2 000 000 from 2001 to the points where the soil map had a rock revealing area. OneGeology-Europe project aims to create a harmonised digital map material for Europe. The map data includes soil and bedrock units as areas, as well as Fennoscandia shield impact craters as areas and tectonics as lines. The data has been reclassified according to the data specification guidelines for OneGeology-Europe. Based on recent radiometric age determinations, rock material in the map database has been modified and regrouped in 2009-2010 together with the Swedish and Norwegian geological research institutes for the OneGeology-Europe project
