The track buffers shall be installed at the end of the track to prevent rolling stock from accidentally colliding over the head of the track. Track buffers are divided into fixed, sliding and hydraulic. The use of sliding or hydraulic track buffers on tracks where repeated breakage of a fixed track buffer is expected or detected, as well as on tracks which may result in significant damage (personal injuries, VAK transports) are intended to be used.
