Title of Helsinki

The material contains the official name of Helsinki, i.e. the names confirmed in the city plans for streets, parks and other public areas. The names are in Finnish and Swedish. The names are accompanied by naming reasons and other possible additional information, such as previous name and spelling changes. In addition, the data contains the names of the districts (divisions, sub-regions, basic districts) of the city’s administrative division. The material also contains the names of public places maintained by the City of Helsinki, such as sports parks and marinas, processed by the Nomination Committee, even if they have not been confirmed in the city plan. The nomination is maintained as part of the Helsinki Local Government Register (Facta system). The designation is planned and confirmed as part of the town plan process. The Nomination Committee, which consists of experts in the history of Helsinki, Finnish and Swedish, urban planning and urban culture, prepares the nominations. The material is updated in connection with the planning process and the work of the Nomination Committee.
