Dataset description

This data contains only those departments whose updating of classified sites has not yet been published on the geoportal of urban planning: Charente, Dordogne, Lot-et-Garonne, Pyrénées-Atlantiques. The classified site is a strong protection that corresponds to the desire to keep the designated site in the state, which does not exclude management or recovery. Classification is issued by order of the Minister for the Environment or decree by the Council of State. The consequence is that any owner or occupant is required to issue an authorisation for any modification of the appearance of a site (planning works, consolidation, felling of trees, etc.). The decision to issue is the responsibility of the Prefect for “small works” (arts. R421-1, 422-1 and 2 of the Code of Urbanism) or to the Minister of the Environment in other cases (permit to build...) after consulting the departmental commission of the sites. Activities with no control over the ground may continue to be practised (hunting...). The installation of new very high voltage power lines, camping and caravaning, advertising signs are prohibited. In the same way as registered sites, classified sites enjoy criminal protection against acts of deliberate destruction, mutilation or degradation.
