Dataset description

The data refer to soils, products of alteration, reshuffle, and organisation of the upper layers of the earth’s crust under the action of life, atmosphere, and energy exchange manifested (Aubert and Boulaine). The thickness of the described medium rarely exceeds 2 m. These data may be useful for any study requiring spatialised soil information (production of agricultural or forest biomass, quality and quantitative management of water, biodiversity, carbon storage, erosion risk, spatial planning, landscape analysis, archaeology, etc.) Several information represented by soil mapping units is available with a dominant value and a proposed secondary value per map unit (soil may exhibit significant spatial variability). List of parameters represented: parental material, surface pierrosity, surface texture, soil depth, water circulation characteristic in the soil...This list will gradually enrich. These open-access data come from the extraction and processing of the Alsace soil database at the most comprehensive and detailed 1/250 000th managed by the Association for Agronomic Recovery in Alsace (ARAA). This database is also accessible in various ways (see associated resources and data sheet DONNEES — Regional Soil Database of Alsace — Regional Pedological Reference (RRP) Alsace at 1/250 000th — 2011) __Origine__ Source data and production process: (1) Data extracted from the Alsace soil database — Regional Pedological Reference (RRP) Alsace at 1/250 000th — 2011. The database was set up in accordance with the specifications of the national inventory programme for soil management and conservation (IGCS) with the Donesol data dictionary (see the resources associated with the fact sheet), based on the standard X31-560 soil mapping (acquiring and computer management of soil data for use in soil mapping). A soil map unit (UCS) may be pure and composed of a single soil type (UTS), or complex and composed of several types of soil whose characteristics can be described and the % of the surface area of which can be estimated in the cartographic unit. (2) To produce a layer of information representing one parameter per soil map unit, the following data processing process was applied: — extraction of the parameter for the set of soil types (UTS) and extraction of the % area of each soil type in a map unit (UCS) —calculation of the dominant value of the parameter for a map unit and the associated area % —calculation of the secondary value of the parameter in a cartographic unit and the associated area % for example for Pierrosity: PIERRO_1 (dominant pierrity class), PIERRO_1_T (clear text of dominant pierrity class), PIERRO_1_P (% surface of that dominant class in the cartographic unit), PIERRO_2 (secondary pierrity class secondary class), PIERRO_2_T (clear secondary pierrity class text), PIERRO_2_P (% surface of this secondary class in the cartographic unit) the other parameters are: CL_PRO (depth class), CL_MAT (parental material), DN (natural drainage, water circulation in soil), TEXT (surface texture) (3) Additional comments on the quality of the data: As a result of this work, the expected reliability of the data is in line with the announced usage scale (1/250 000th). Any interpretation of the data at a level of accuracy greater than that indicated in the file designation is not recommended without observations of additional land. In particular, since the database does not have the required precision for cadastral scale expertise, a user remains responsible for any cadastral scale transposition. __ Partner Organisations__ ARAA, CIGAL __Links annexes__ * [Datadictionary DoneSol](https://dw3.gissol.fr/login) * [interrogation of BDDsols via WebSOL Alsace platform](https://alsace.websol.fr/) * [framework of the Inventory Programme Soil Management and Conservation](http://www.gissol.fr/le-gis/programmes/inventaire-gestion-et-conservation-des-sols-igcs-67) * [recovery of soil databases](http://www.sols-et-territoires.org/) * [soil information](http://www.afes.fr/index.php) [See this sheet on geo.data.gouv.fr](https://geo.data.gouv.fr/fr/datasets/693408c9f28e18f88e99819492bedd7a9026ce4d)
