Dataset description

Since 1 January 2014 the old classifications “reserved watercourses” adopted pursuant to the Energy Act of 1980 and “watercourses classified as Migratory” made pursuant to Article L.432-6 of the Environmental Code have become obsolete. The Law on Water of 31 December 2006 introduced two new types of classification which replace these old classifications by extending their application to all works which impede ecological continuity. Article L.214-17-I of the Environmental Code and its implementing articles R.214-107 to 110 of the Environmental Code define these classifications: List 1: These are streams on which no new works can be authorised or granted if it impedes ecological continuity. List 2: These are streams on which it is necessary to ensure the adequate transport of sediments and/or the circulation of migratory fish. On the Adour-Garonne basin, the list of rivers referred to in 1° I of Article L. 214-17 of the Environmental Code was drawn up by prefectural decree of 7 October 2013. This data set is a graphic representation of this list 1. From a legal point of view, only the literal list of watercourses set out in the annex to the Order is authentic. This data series is compatible with the 2013 BDCarthage repository. For the formulations in the prefectural decree of the type “the river X and its tributaries”, the selected streams are those of the BDCarthage 2008 having a toponym and attached to the sub-basin in question.
