The main objectives of this inventory are:
— to identify, in a broad and systematic manner, all industrial sites, whether abandoned or not, likely to cause environmental pollution;
— keep the memory of these sites;
— to provide useful information to those involved in urban planning, land and environmental protection.
In July 2020, the BASIAS database contains approximately 322,400 former industrial sites and service activities identified on French territory.
