Scope of public institutions for inter-municipal cooperation (own taxation or other) Public institutions for inter-municipal cooperation (EPCI) are groupings of municipalities whose purpose is to draw up “common development projects within solidarity zones”. They are subject to common rules which are homogeneous and comparable to those of local authorities. The information presented here relates to private taxation EPCI: Urban Community (CU); Community of Agglomeration (CA); Community of Communes (CC); Union d’Agglomération Nouvelle (SAN); Metropolis (ME). There are also EPCIs without own taxation: single Vocation Intercommunal Unions (SIVU), Multiple Vocation Intercommunal Unions (SIVOM), Closed Mixed Trade Unions (SM Closed) and Open Mixed Unions (open SM). list of municipalities of EPCI with own taxation which can be downloaded from the INSEE website — 2006 data of EPCI with own taxation (including SIREN and constituent municipalities) recoverable from the DGCL website: http://www.dgcl.interieur.gouv.fr/donneeschiffrees/interco_SETL/intercochiffres.htm (annual update) — Data also recoverable from the ASPIC database of the Ministry of the Interior (cf. URL communicated) for all or part of the departments; but data seeming to date from 2005 — SIREN number recoverable from the UNDNU for all EPCI
