Dataset description

Bicycle roads and green roads are part of a national policy of the Ministry of Ecology for the development of cycling and cycling. The geostandard offers a core of information describing the national network of bicycle roads and green roads. It is intended to provide a common framework for bicycle road GIS for their data exchange. A bike route is a medium- to long-distance cycle route, continuous (without interruption, including in cities), staking and secured. Bike roads use all types of secure lanes including green lanes. Green roads are a category of cycling development. A green lane is not a bicycle road. The title “Véloroutes” would have been better adapted to designate the theme of this geostandard. The name “veloroutes and green roads” has nevertheless been retained for communication reasons, referring to the national and eponymous regional schemes in France. The geostandard describes bike roads as a cycling network. The bicycle road network consists of various localised cycling elements: • The bike route: structuring elements of the network, cycling routes represent bicycle roads included in a European, national (SN3V), regional (SR3V) or departmental cycle network development scheme. • The cycling portion: each cycle route is divided into a number of cycling portions. These cycling portions indicate the stages, variants, deviation from a cycle route. • The cycle segment: the finest part of the cycle road network, a cycle segment is a cycle section identifiable by its geometry, level of advancement and level of equipment. Some use less frequent road sections, others benefit from a dedicated infrastructure for gentle modes of movement (cycling path, green lane). • The cycling reference point: it identifies the network’s characteristic nodes.
