Infra-communal disadvantaged agricultural area defined by prefectural classification order. Less-favoured agricultural areas are territories with specific (economic, agricultural, physical and demographic), natural and permanent handicaps linked to terrain, altitude, slope and soil, in which the maintenance of agricultural activity is necessary for the maintenance of the natural area (see Directive 75/268/EEC). These are less-favoured agricultural areas, which are “homogeneous territories in terms of natural conditions of production”. Less-favoured areas may correspond to municipal boundaries or sub-communal areas; they are defined by prefectural decree classifying less-favoured areas.
