Dataset description

The new sound classification was approved by a prefectural decree of 18 March 2016; it concerns the land infrastructure of the Sarthe department having the following characteristics: — roadways with an average annual average traffic of more than 5000 vehicles/days, — tracks of more than 50 trains per day for railway lines — lanes of more than 100 trains per day for public transport lines on a clean site. Infrastructure is therefore classified into 5 categories according to the level of noise they generate, with category 1 being the noisy one; this calculation of the noise level is carried out by crossing different data (annual average daily traffic (TMJA), percentage of heavy goods vehicles, type of track, regulatory speed, type of fabric surrounding the track, etc.) Classification results in the determination of a sound footprint, where reinforced sound insulation of buildings is necessary. The width of the sectors varies from 10 to 300 metres depending on the sound category from the edge of the infrastructure. Since noise classification is intended to impose specific construction rules in the sectors affected by noise, it is the responsibility of the builders, professionals or individuals to implement them.
