Dataset description

A transitional water body is a distinct and significant part of surface waters near river or river mouths, which are partially saline due to their proximity to coastal waters but which remain fundamentally influenced by freshwater currents, constituting the elementary division of aquatic environments intended to be the WFD assessment unit. Correspondence report DCE: this entity corresponds to the concept of Surface Water Body (SWB) of WISE where the attribute ‘specialisedZoneType’ = ‘transitionalWaterBody’. The layers are distributed in a format consistent with the SANDRE data dictionary of the Water Mass Reference, version 1.4.
