Dataset description

The Zones à Dominante Humide database of the Dordogne Basin presents an inventory of wetlands or potential wetlands in the Dordogne watershed. The inventory was carried out in several stages: —The Limousin part has been treated more accurately to homogenise with other regional data. It is available in another dataset entitled: «Watershed of the Dordogne: Areas in Dominante Humide, inventory at 1/25000e (Limousin sector)” —The inventory on the Cantal department is being carried out by CG 15. The set will give full coverage of the watershed. The data is the result of large-scale inventory work (1:50,000), using numerical analysis and remote sensing methods. The data is produced by EPIDOR, EPTB Dordogne, in collaboration with the Belgian design office I-MAGE Consult, and the CNRS laboratory COSTEL (Climate and Occupation of Sol by TElédétection). This is a descriptive approach to these areas, which uses a method already implemented for the Seine-Normandie Water Agency. The value of this method is that beyond wetlands with high heritage interest, it allows to identify all the other areas sometimes described as banal, but which may have a strong potential vis-à-vis other functions, in particular water resources.
