Dataset description

**Set of data presenting the Parisian archaeological repository.** The **project R & CAP** (_Referential and Cartography of Parisian Archaeology_) benefits from the collaboration of Inrap, Drac Île-de-France and CNRS (UMR 7041 ArScAn) and brings together many archaeologists and historians working on the history of Paris. It aims to provide researchers and the general public with an updated inventory of archaeological discoveries**, which will be regularly enriched and valued in the form of thematic narratives. Many data sources have been analysed, ranging from records of ancient discoveries from the 17th and 18th centuries to reports of the most recent preventive archaeological operations. The archives of Théodore Vacquer — the first Parisian archaeologist (late 19th century) and the Commission du Vieux Paris, held at the Bibliothèque Historique de la Ville de Paris, constitute the most important collection to document the evolution of the city of Paris. Two other reference books feed the map and have been indexed: * the Archaeological Map of Paris_ established in 1971 by Michel Fleury * the Archaeological Map of Gaul devoted to Paris, published in 1998 by Didier Busson. **Piloted by the Directorate of Cultural Affairs — Sub-Direction of Heritage and History — Department of History of Architecture and Archaeology -**[** Archaeological Pole**](https://www.paris.fr/services-et-infos-pratiques/culture-et-patrimoine/histoire-et-patrimoine/l-archeologie-a-paris-2402) ****** This dataset corresponds to the new [archaeological map of Paris](https://geoapps.huma-num.fr/adws/app/a031b266-40f4-11e9-8252-9bef4db631c3/) is conceived as a tool for scientific knowledge and dissemination. It was developed in partnership with the consortium [_Huma-num “Paris Time Machine_”](https://paris-timemachine.huma-num.fr/). **More information on**[**paris.fr Archaeology Days: Paris and its hidden mysteries**](https://www.paris.fr/pages/journees-de-l-archeologie-paris-et-ses-mysteres-enfouis-7889) **.**
