Dataset description

The raw data are provided by INPI and are derived from an extraction of its internal 2015 database enriched by the Patstat database for some European patents. This is the basis for publications of patent applications and grant of patents in France at INPI (national route), and European patent applications of the European Patent Office (EPO) which enter into the French national phase. The INPI patent database is available in its entirety for re-use under a license (https://www.inpi.fr/fr/services-et-prestations/bases-en-acces-libre) The patent data present procedural dates, French addresses of applicants and inventors, the nature of applicants and codes of the International Patent Classification (IPC) and related technological nomenclatures. In order to protect personal data, the names and addresses of inventors and depositors (natural persons) are not included in this dataset. Each patent is geo-located at different levels depending on the address of applicants and inventors: countries, regions, departments, urban units, municipalities. These data are mobilised in the [Patent Atlas](http://publication.enseignementsup-recherche.gouv.fr/atlas-brevets/index.php/Accueil/fr) The objective of this atlas is to contribute to the understanding **of research and innovation activity in France** through a territorial analysis of the number of patents. Based on a reliable, historical corpus, integrating key nomenclatures of technology, the Atlas answers simple questions about publications of patent applications and patent grant (what, where, how many?). An annual update of this atlas is planned. The data available in this open game has no legal value.
