Dataset description

This geographical data layer identifies the major regions producing PDO wines in France, grouped according to the INAO regional committees. It provides an overview at national and possibly regional level. If you need more information, you can consult/use the piecemeal delineations proposed by the INAO also available on data.gouv.fr This map was produced from different data sources: 1. the list of official quality marks: Https://www.data.gouv.fr/fr/datasets/r/63aa018b-98c6-4e25-923d-a6052cf98b91 1. the quality marks referenced by municipality: Https://www.data.gouv.fr/fr/datasets/r/dbb4a026-99e5-40bd-8f11-1a1c6342d9af 1. the simplified outline of municipalities: Https://www.data.gouv.fr/fr/datasets/r/951dc8f8-b116-4ba2-a86a-bf6ab560afa7 As a first step, municipalities with a quality sign of the ‘VITICOLE’ sector and the EU ‘Wine’ class were selected and then associated with the simplified outline of the municipalities. Subsequently, the municipalities belonging to the same regional committee of the INAO were merged into a single set. It should be noted that some municipalities may belong to 2 production basins, particularly for the production areas in Armagnac and Vins Doux Naturels. The municipalities of Bellegarde 30034 and Nimes 30 189 belonged both to Languedoc-Roussillon and Vallée du Rhône, for the sake of simplification, they were linked solely to the Rhône valley. The map was restricted to mainland France only. It excludes the production of Cidres and Calvados.
