Dataset description

# **participation of museums in the Isère department** * * * ** ** Since its inception, the museum network of the Department of Isère has evolved over the years (redevelopment of permanent routes, opening of new museums) to stabilise at 11 museums in 2021. Its peculiarity? **gratuity** and **diversity** of all sites! Rich in prestigious collections, these 11 museums are all housed in exceptional heritage buildings often protected by historical monuments. They present to visitors the great diversity of the Ierois heritage, whether it is archaeological, industrial, rural or artistic. They also offer workshops, conferences, meetings, temporary exhibitions, screenings and many other events. As part of the departmental network, they have been working together for several years to promote a common theme. After the year Lesdiguières in 2017, departmental museums lived in Japanese time in 2018, and responded to “The Forest Appeal in Isère” in 2021-2022. * * * _List of 11 departmental museums:_ * __Maison Bergès in Villard-Bonnot * Musée de l’Ancien Évêché in Grenoble * Arcabas Museum in Chartreuse * Saint-Laurent Archaeological Museum in Grenoble * Champollion Museum in Vif * Dauphinois Museum in Grenoble * Hébert Museum in La Tronche * Hector-Berlioz Museum in La Côte-Saint-André * Museum of Resistance and Deportation in Isère in Grenoble * Domain of Vizille — Museum of the French Revolution in Vizille * Museum of Saint-Antoine-l’Abbaye * * * ## **museums and their attendance** ** **The figures provided since 2007 include all visits, whether they have been made in a “free” setting, whether they are commented on or school visits, or whether they correspond to entrances for shows or entertainment. Each visitor is counted, whether individually or as a group. The data are reported on a monthly time step. To facilitate the interpretation of these data, several factors should be taken into account because the seasonality of museum attendance is multifactorial. This can be explained in particular by: The seasonal closure of some museums: * Domain of Vizille — Museum of the French Revolution: a week between Christmas and New Year’s Day * Museum of Saint-Antoine-l’Abbaye: January-February The impact of the success of some temporary exhibitions The impact of museum closures during the COVID-19 health crisis (March-April 2020 and November 2020-19 May 2021). These imposed closures have inevitably significantly lowered the number of visitors for 2020 and 2021. > # For more information do not hesitate to consult the [portal of departmental museums](https://musees.isere.fr/).
