European armaments cooperation

France has devoted about EUR 10 billion a year to arms programmes during the the period covered by the Military Programming Act (MPL) 2014-2019. The draft LPM under debate in Parliament foresees an increase in these investments for the period 2019-2023 with, on average, EUR 5 billion for nuclear deterrence and EUR 10 billion for conventional armaments. European cooperation allows for innovative military equipment while achieving economies of scale and supporting the competitiveness of European industry, but their success is not guaranteed. By taking stock of the main programmes in cooperation between European States, the Court sets out the conditions for successful future cooperation.
