Dataset description

This dataset presents the light pollution modelling data in Occitania, which is based on the study “Production of a mapping of light pollution in the Occitania Region” undertaken as part of the Regional Biodiversity Strategy (SrB), conducted by the Occitanie Region with the support of the design offices La Telescop and DarkSkyLab. The term “light pollution” means the abnormal or annoying presence of artificial light at night. Part of our daily life this pollution is often forgotten. However, it has many negative economic, health and biodiversity effects. The first Region to engage in the identification of a black screen, Occitanie wants through the study “Production of a mapping of light pollution in Occitanie” to raise awareness and mobilise local actors in taking into account the impacts of public lighting on both biodiversity and human health. This study is based on: \- The mapping of light pollution (scale 1/100 000th identical to that of the Regional Ecological Coherence Schemes (SRCE)) through the acquisition of satellite data. \- The identification of the “black strip” of the territory by means of a deductive approach, i.e. an overlap of ecological networks (windows and corridors) and light pollution. \- Pilot experiments of the various actors mobilised throughout the study (natural parks, communities, associations, research structures, etc.). For more details about this dataset, you can refer to the methodological guide in the resources. This document sets out in detail the technical modalities and the benefits and limitations of the study.
