Perimeters from the Maroni flood study of May-June 2008 and April-May 2006.
Directed by GINGER Environnement et Infrastructures.
The study area corresponds to the banks of the Maroni located upstream of Saint-Laurent,
in the communal territories of Apatou, Grand Santi, Papaïchton and Maripasoula to Antecume Pata.
__Origin__
From the water heights established during the PHE survey phase of February 2009, the mappings of flood zones of the various urbanised sectors for which there is a topographical background have been drawn up. Based on the heights retained following the PHE phase report of February 2009, the existing topography was used to define the flood area.
These heights of water were obtained by an investigation that made it possible to draw records of Higher Waters on the right and left banks of the Maroni. They identify the highest levels reached and other characteristics of flooding (speeds, duration of submersion, damage, etc.). The inhabitants of the villages and hamlets also provided a lot of information on their situation during the flood, the possibility of rehousing in case of flooding, etc.
The party was taken to map the maximum known flood area. Thus, on the upstream of the watershed (Papaïchton and Maripasoula), the 2006 flood was greater than that of 2008. The score from the PHEs recorded in February 2009 and relating to the 2006 flood was then retained.
