Dataset description

The notion of massif is to be differentiated from the notion of mountain. According to the legislation in force, in France, a mountain area includes municipalities or parts of communes characterised by: — i.e. the existence, because of the altitude (minimum 700 m, except for the Vosges massif at 600 m, and the Mediterranean mountains at 800 m), very difficult climatic conditions which result in a significantly shortened growing season; — or the presence, at a lower altitude, in most of the territory (at least 80 %), of steep slopes (above 20 %), such that mechanisation is not possible or requires the use of #x27; very expensive equipment; or the combination of these two factors. On several occasions, the delimitation of mountain areas has been enriched and completed. Today it distinguishes several geographical units according to the intensity of their mountain character (from Piedmont to High Mountain). The massif encompasses not only mountain areas, but also areas immediately adjacent to them: Piedmonts, or even plains if they ensure the continuity of the massif. This enlargement takes into account the interactions and exchanges between the territories of ' altitude and the plains, which makes it possible to set up projects of ' more relevant spatial planning. The notion of massif allows to have an administrative entity competent to carry out mountain policy. __Origin__ Aggregation of the list of municipalities concerned from \#x27; after the Common layer of n°#x27; an administrative boundary framework (BD Carto, GeoFla..) __Partner organisations__ DDT Saône-et-Loire __Links annexes__ * [XML metadata view](http://ogc.geo-ide.developpement-durable.gouv.fr/csw/all-dataset?REQUEST=GetRecordById&SERVICE=CSW&VERSION=2.0.2&RESULTTYPE=results&elementSetName=full&TYPENAMES=gmd:MD_Metadata&OUTPUTSCHEMA=http://www.isotc211.org/2005/gmd&ID=fr-120066022-jdd-207e1b4c-e776-4470-a2af-5399cc2b94c1) * [COVADIS data standard: N_MASSIF_MONTAGNE_ZSUP](http://geostandards.developpement-durable.gouv.fr/afficherPageStandard.do?id=1294) * [basic URL of wms/wfs services on the Internet](http://ogc.geo-ide.developpement-durable.gouv.fr/wxs?map=/opt/data/carto/geoide-catalogue/1.4/org_38084/066ad3c3-92ec-4f78-9385-9158fff0c594.internet.map) [See this page on geo.data.gouv.fr](https://geo.data.gouv.fr/fr/datasets/5d0dc4b98e0128383e48e0bd75070941c703ef7c)
