Dataset description

Selection of works preserved at the Musée du Domaine départemental de Sceaux and representing missing castles in the Hauts-de-Seine and Yvelines departments. * * * Whoever walks the Ile-de-France will be struck by the number of castles and other seigneurial mansions. While some still mark the Parisian landscape of their presence, many have left only memories of past and past glory. Destruction, dismantling, reconstruction and abandonment have marked the history of these prestigious buildings, formerly centers of power and authority, but also of artistic creation, today places of memory and walks. This is what intends to evoke this presentation that will take the visitor along a route, following the course of the Seine, an artery so important for the history of the Ile-de-France, while allowing himself some diverted paths. Thus a selection of paintings, drawings and prints but also some photographs will present the castles now disappeared from Colbert to Sceaux, the Grand Dauphin in Meudon, the Conti in Issy-les-Moulineaux, Monsieur in Saint-Cloud, Louis-Philippe to Neuilly-sur-Seine, but also the castles of Clagny, Marly-le-Roi, Mantes-la-Jolie without forgetting those of Montfort-L’Amaury and Perray-en-Yvelines.
