Dataset description

The advent of Louis-Philippe in August 1830 following the Trois Glorieuses paved the way for the recognition of the role of individuals on the days of July 1830. Combatants, wounded and indirect victims are entitled to an honorary award, a pension or financial assistance. These compensations were extended in 1833 to the “winners of the Bastille” of 1789 still alive. This device will be renewed for the fighters of the Revolution of 1848. This dataset consists of three recounts of individual compensation files carried out by the National Archives: * 1789: 704 individuals ([online inventory](https://www.siv.archives-nationales.culture.gouv.fr/siv/IR/FRAN_IR_058532)), * 1830: 3780 individuals ([online inventory](https://www.siv.archives-nationales.culture.gouv.fr/siv/IR/FRAN_IR_058544)), * 1848: 858 individuals ([online inventory](https://www.siv.archives-nationales.culture.gouv.fr/siv/IR/FRAN_IR_058560)). Some records relate to events of 1832, 1834 and 1839. The information stripped from the archive files in the early 2000s was initially structured as Word inventories, before the content was partially integrated into the CINDOC database of the National Archives. In 2020, the original data (Word) was backconverted, standardised and encoded (XML, CSV) to be published online on the National Archives portal. The data made available consist of socio-professional information on individuals who lived between 1750 and 1860, as well as information on the nature of the compensation, even the locations and dates of the fighting for 1830.
