The data provided here comes from a specific use of the tax files aimed at assigning each household a precise geographical position (see below). These data allow to have an overview of the population of Orléans Métropole and its distribution on the territory for example.
The carroyage consists of a division of the French territory into tiles 200 meters side. These tiles are free from communal or departmental boundaries. The information that is disseminated at this level is collected by the Directorate-General for Public Finance (DGFIP). It is this body that manages the cadastre and the collection of taxes, so these data are exhaustive and reliable. They meet a European standard, the INSPIRE Directive.
The squared population data are consistent with the data disseminated by the source “localised tax revenues”, but they can only provide a partial view of the population, remember that compared to the census:
* populations not referenced to the housing tax are not present: homeless people, communities;
* students are usually located at their parents’ homes;
* the concept of principal residence may be significantly different.
The squared estimates are in the form of two data sets, one with a resolution of 1 km, the other with a resolution of 200 m.
