Dataset description

The remarkable heritage sites were created by Law No 2016-925 of 7 July 2016 on the freedom of creation, architecture and heritage. The aim of this scheme is to protect and enhance the architectural, urban and landscape heritage of our territories. Remarkable heritage sites are “the cities, villages or neighbourhoods whose conservation, restoration, rehabilitation or enhancement presents, from a historical, architectural, archaeological, artistic or landscape point of view, a public interest.” Rural areas and landscapes that form a coherent whole with these cities, villages or neighbourhoods or which are likely to contribute to their conservation or development may be classified in the same way. Remarkable heritage sites have been created to clarify protection for urban and landscape heritage. **The scheme makes it possible to clearly identify property issues in the same territory.** These issues are reflected in a land management plan which can take two forms: * a backup and development plan ([planning document](http://www.culturecommunication.gouv.fr/Thematiques/Monuments-historiques-Sites-patrimoniaux-remarquables/Presentation/Sites-patrimoniaux-remarquables#Document%20d'urbanisme)) * or a plan to enhance architecture and heritage ([servitude of public benefit](http://www.culturecommunication.gouv.fr/Thematiques/Monuments-historiques-Sites-patrimoniaux-remarquables/Presentation/Sites-patrimoniaux-remarquables#Servitude%20d'utilité public)) Each of them is a legibility factor for project promoters and residents. **Remarkable heritage sites replace old protective devices:** * saved sectors, * architectural, urban and landscape heritage protection areas (ZPPAUP), * architectural and Heritage Development Areas (AVAP). The latter have been automatically transformed by law into remarkable heritage sites.
