Dataset description

This dataset comes from the European database HBEFA v4.1 (Handbook of emissions factors for Road Transport) which provides emission factors, i.e. pollutant emissions in g/km for all categories of road vehicles (private car, light commercial vehicle, heavy-duty vehicle and two-wheel drive), each divided into several sub-categories, for a wide variety of traffic situations (type of road, speed limit and associated traffic saturation level). The data extracted are aggregated emission factors of CO, HC, NOx and particulates by vehicle category (car, light commercial vehicle, heavy goods vehicle, coach, bus and two motorised wheels), by fuel (gasoline, diesel and GNV only for buses), for medium traffic conditions (urban, rural and mixed France) and for each year from 2020 to 2030. Link to HBEFA and its documentation: https://www.hbefa.net/e/index.html **Comment or point of vigilance**: the aggregate emission factors made available (1) are based on a detailed fleet of forward-looking vehicles built by the ISTTAR now the Gustave Eiffel University (https://hal.archives-ouvertes.fr/hal-02888899/document) and (2) incorporate medium over-emissions induced by cold engine start-ups for light vehicles. If you want to supplement these data with the greenhouse gas emission factors, they are available in the Carbone® Base (https://www.bilans-ges.ademe.fr/fr/accueil). Finally, the complete HBEFA v4.1 database with emission factors of many other pollutants, detailed by fine vehicle categories, Euro standards or specific traffic situations can be downloaded from the HBEFA website (EUR 250 or EUR 150 for a version update).
