Dataset description

This dataset concerns all urban trees referenced in open data. There is currently no national repository of urban trees and we propose here a work that synthesises the contents of the many local data files available in open data on data.gouv.fr or on local portals. An urban tree is not strictly defined. The definition of trees in this dataset was dependent on the nature of the sources that have been associated here. They are systematically trees whose management belongs to a local authority, mainly municipalities or EPCIs. Some regions have also put in open data the position of the trees of which they are managers. Trees managed by utilities are of three types: — alignment trees along roadways. They constitute a large number of trees identified by the communities (probably because of the critical nature of their maintenance); — the remarkable trees. Trees with sufficiently unique characteristics (rare gasoline, age, dimensions) to be listed and classified; — ornamental trees of public space. In addition, we were obliged to identify only the data delivered in a one-time format, i.e. where each tree is represented by a point. There are databases that refer to trees through lines (especially for alignment trees) or polygons (for tree areas). The documentation attached to this file shall contain: — listing of the different files that have been assembled in the repository — the diagram explained in our base — description of the method used to build this base — elements for analysing the content of this repository
