Dataset description

This dataset represents the volumes of organic waste (biowaste or putrescible waste) collected by the public service (households, small businesses) and the volumes generated by “large producers”. Such waste may be subject to organic recovery (composting) or energy (methanisation) by means of an appropriate collection and/or sorting system. Specific measures aim at better collection of such waste with high recovery potential. In 2017, 125 communities set up a separate collection of bio-waste for households and/or professionals. Nearly 4 million inhabitants are affected. Since 1 January 2012, companies that produce or own a significant amount of bio-waste have an obligation to sort and recover them in suitable composting or methanisation processes. The Food Waste Act provides for the generalisation of sorting of biowaste at source by 2023.
