Dataset description

In principle, the flowing waters are assigned on the basis of a method coordinated nationwide in the Bund-Länder-Arbeitsgemeinschaft Wasser (LAWA) (see http://www.wasserblick.net/servlet/is/18727/) According to this method, the first flowwater type map of Baden-Württemberg was created in 2004 on the geometric basis of the AWGN (as of 2010) in the form of an ESRI shape file. In 2012, a first fundamental revision and adaptation to the current AWGN (as of 2012) took place. A further revision took place in 2019/20, with most of the changes affecting the Upper Rhine-Tiefland. For this region, which is problematic from a typological point of view, a country-specific concept for typing has been developed in accordance with the LAWA principles. In addition, the national dataset was adapted to the AWGN (as of 2019). Two data sets(shapes) are provided for the flowing water typology in BW: on the Internet (environmental data online) the shape of “biocenotically significant type of flowing water” with the results published in 2020, only for internal use (BRS) in addition also the shape “biocenotically significant flow water type 2012”. The background to the revisions will each be explained in a report. The 2020 update report has been published in LUBW publications (https://pudi.lubw.de/) since June 2021. The reports can be found using the search term “Typology”. The biocenotic type of flowing water flows directly into the assessment of the biological quality component macrozoobenthos under the EU Water Framework Directive and is therefore primarily determined for the waters relevant to the Water Framework Directive (water catchment area greater than 10 km²). In the plant (partial) components phytoplankton, phytobenthos without diatoms and diatoms, the biocenotic water type serves as the basis for deriving the evaluation types. Furthermore, the biocenotically important type of flowwater also flows into the evaluation of the physico-chemical quality components.
