Dataset description

In order to implement the EU Water Framework Directive (EU-WFD), comprehensive water quality assessments have been awarded by the Environment Unit. The water structure mapping of the flowing waters in Emscher and Lippe catchment areas in Gelsenkirchen was carried out on the basis of the mapping of the State Office for Nature, Environment and Consumer Protection NRW. The inventory (actual state) of the municipal pure watercourses and inflows covered more than 33 km running. This was implemented in the two years 2019-2020 by the commissioned planning office Koenzen. From the surveys of the individual parameters, evaluations for six main parameters (run development, longitudinal profile, hollow structure, transverse profile, shore structure and environment) could be calculated and further aggregated into an overall assessment for the considered cartilage section. The mapping of the water structure mapping is carried out in a volumey assessment (left environment, left bank, sole, right bank, right environment). It assesses the deviation of the actual state of a section of water from the so-called “guideline”. The water structure map clearly shows that many waters have been altered more or less significantly in the past due to development measures and uses. They are characterised by the colors yellow (strongly altered), orange (very heavily altered) or red (fully changed). In addition, there are also water bodies or sections of water, which are only moderately (green) or slightly (blue) changed compared to the mission statement and are therefore in a “good” to “very good” state from a hydromorphological point of view.
