Dataset description
The data set contains all forest areas depicted in forest function mapping with a special utility, protection and recreation function in the Free State of Saxony. As part of forest function mapping, the forest areas and their function are identified on the basis of the Saxon Forest Act (SächsWaldG). On the one hand, this is forest with special plant protection function, biotope protection function, soil protection function, fire protection function, monument protection function, recreation function, gene conservation function, flood protection function, emission protection function, local climate protection function, regional climate protection function, visual protection function, water protection function. or on the other hand soil protection forest, the landscape of defining forests, documentation areas of historical forest forms, forest for research and teaching, sanctuary areas, restoration areas, flooding areas, water protected areas, landscape conservation areas, national parks, nature parks, nature reserves, natural forest cells, natural monuments, biosphere reserves, biotopes, fauna flora habitats and bird sanctuaries. For each area, the name of the forest function and the geographical name is given. The data is used for the forest function map 1:25,000 of Saxony. Further information can be found in the brochure on forest function mapping published by the state enterprise Sachsenforst.
