Dataset description

The soils of the Lower Saxony forests are mapped as part of the site mapping according to the standard of the site ecological estimation framework (Ed. Lower Saxony Forest Planning Office Wolfenbüttel) and presented in forest maps. The ownership structure in the Lower Saxony forests is very heterogeneous. These include federal forests with military properties, state forests owned by the state, monastic chamber forests, urban forests, privately owned forests with support from the Landesforsten or the Lower Saxony Chamber of Agriculture. Location mapping is carried out with the support of the country under the responsibility of the respective owners. On the basis of the Decree on the Soil Protection Act (RdErl. d. MW v. 17. 12. 1999-35-28102 —) the LBEG takes over the forest location data into the NIBIS® and represents it with the permission of the owners in generalised form on the map server. In addition, the forest location maps in sheet section 1: 25 000 are issued as cards in a standardised output format. The maps show the suitability of different locations as the basis for production. So-called location types are classified on the maps, which can be characterised by soil moisture, air balance, nutrient and base supply as well as substrate and storage. Due to the high spatial resolution of the site images, the forest maps are of great importance for the geological-stolery of the land.
