Dataset description

Persistent rainfall has led to severe floods in many parts of Germany in recent days. The local forces are supported by the Federal Police, the Bundeswehr and the Technical Relief Agency. In Saxony-Anhalt, the Elbe and Saale carry as much water as rarely before. In Bernburg the catastrophe alam was triggered on 4 June, large parts of the city are underwater. The detailed view shown shows a flooded residential development in the northern part of the city. In Schönebeck, Calbe and Barby, the situation is still tense, and the water level is expected to rise further in the next few days. The water surfaces shown in the map were derived from a RapidEye scene recorded on 5 June 2013 at 12:30 CEST. The detail map shows an aerial image of a 3K camera, taken on 05 June 2013 at about 13:00 CEST. RapidEye data with a spatial resolution of 5 meters serves as a background image. This product was created within the framework contract “ZKI-DE” between the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) and the German Aerospace Center (DLR).
