Persistent rainfall has led to severe floods in large parts of Germany in recent days. The local forces are supported by the Federal Police, the Bundeswehr and the Technical Relief Agency. The situation on the Elbe remains very tense. The peak wave for Magdeburg is expected tomorrow evening. The level was 5.49 metres at the time of recording in Dessau. The water areas shown in the map were derived from a RADARSAT-2 scene with a spatial resolution of 50 meters, recorded on June 08 at 07:40 CET. RapidEye data with a spatial resolution of 20 meters serve as a background image. Please note that due to radar geometry, the flood situation may not be fully recorded in urban areas, vegetation cover and high gradient areas.
