Persistent rainfall has led to severe floods in many parts of Germany in recent days. The local forces are supported by the Federal Police, the Bundeswehr and the Technical Relief Agency. In Magdeburg, the Elbe reached a level of 7.37 meters on Saturday afternoon, a peak of about 7.50 meters was expected for the weekend. There was also the risk that softened dams could break. Due to the danger of flooding, more than 20,000 people were prepared for a possible evacuation.
